This procedure has been shown to be particularly effective and permanent with physical pain and addictions.
Premise
Humans are systems and parts of larger systems. Viewing the whole person as a system, one might take advantage of that system to offer change within it. Thinking holistically we can bring about change by introducing proven methods in a unique way. In the following procedure RET, imagery, and simple principle are employed to effect major permanent change. The RET opens the psyche to the body to infuse the reorganization into the body/mind.
Procedure
Introduce the concept of reorganization. Just like the reorganization of a business or corporation (another system) the body/mind can be reorganized. Imagine the mind (the part that is in charge of the system) wants to make a change (a reorganization of the system). Parts of the system have been working very hard to keep the organization in place and productive. Now the management of the organization wants a change (that’s why they have come for therapy). As in any large corporation or business workers become fearful when they hear that a change or reorganization is coming. We can ease the transition by honoring workers and reassigning them. There are basically four questions that any worker wants to know:
- Title or Name & Description- “Be” (Purpose)
- Performance – “Do” (Intent)
- Pay – “Have” (Result)
- Security – Survival
These same questions will be asked and fulfilled twice – once to determine each worker’s present position and once to offer a new job in the reorganized system.
Set intent – What do you want the system to be like when this session is over?
Identify presenting complaints. How do you feel? (Or have felt recently)
Identify where you feel it in the body or think about the part that feels that way as a person or separate entity.
Imagine you are a business going through a reorganization and you are the boss.
The business has been very successful and now is desiring a change of direction. (Like changing from a personal service oriented business to a group service oriented business)
All workers have done a marvelous job so far. Now the purpose of the system has changed and a reorganization is necessary.
Imagine that each part is a worker afraid of losing their job.
Imagine getting together with all the parts that are affected by the change.
Tell all affected parts that they are involved in a system reorganization.
Let them know that you value them and intend to keep them all.
Ask each part these four questions:
- What is your present job name? (Job description)
- Describe what you do? (Job performance)
- How are you paid for what you do? (What do you get out of what you do?)
- How long have you been doing this job? (How secure are you?)
Thank and honor each part for the fine job they have been doing. (They kept the client alive at times – that’s really great work!)
Determine a new job for each part that conforms to the stated intent.
Ask the client the same four questions again about each new job:
- What is the new job name? (Give them a name [like peace, happiness, caring, etc.]
- Describe what they will be doing. (Get detailed [Peace gently calms me down])
- What is their pay? (What will they get out of this? [Satisfaction, recognition, praise, etc.])
- How long will they been doing this job? (What is their security? [I’ll think of you every time I feel out of sorts])
Ask each part if they will accept their new assignments. Satisfy any doubts through negotiation as necessary.
When all agree to their new positions in the new reorganization, complete with standard RET Release & Gather process while the client blinks to process the system and integrate the changes. Some useful phrases to use are:
“With great intention, take a deep breath and breathe it out to the light, releasing all the old jobs with their descriptions into the light… Reorganizing them through layers and levels – gathering any resistance to the new job descriptions back to the body… Releasing any resistance to the light… Reorganizing, reorganizing, reorganizing… Cube to sphere, sphere to vapor, vapor to light… Reorganizing, reorganizing, reorganizing… ” Continue until the client feels the same in both directions… Be sure to complete circuits! (This “seals” the reorganization – like signing the contract and starting the work)
